Prepare for Quiz 1 on Monday February 12, which is to play Morning Mood on page 12, smoothly, fluently, and with musical expression. If you haven’t yet gotten the book, click here for a temporary PDF to allow you to study.
Be able to play the scale and chords of G major as given on page 8 in the book, from memory. If you haven’t yet gotten the book, click here for a temporary PDF to allow you to study. Use this to review the scales and chords of C major also (it’s the same fingering).
Complete the review sheets on pages 18 and 19 in your book. If you haven’t yet gotten the book, click here for a temporary PDF to allow you to study.
Monday the 19th is Presidents Day, there will be no class.
You can access the marks I have assigned for your first quiz (if you completed it) by clicking here and following the instructions.
Your second quiz on Monday February 26th is to play from memory the scales and chords of C major and G major. Use page 146 as your guide.
You may also repeat your first quiz from Monday February 12 – to play “Morning Mood” with fluency and musicality -if you feel like you could do better.
Be able to play “East River Boogie” on page 6.
Thoroughly review Chapter 1 in the text book, and if you didn’t complete the review sheets on pages 18 and 19, do so in pencil before Monday’s class.
Your third quiz on Monday March 5th is to play “East River Boogie” on page 6, smoothly and fluently, and with accurate articulation.
Write the subdivided counting in your book for every measure of “Hello! My Baby” on page 31 and be able to play until measure 11 accurately hands together, even if it’s slow.
Practice the scales and chords of D and A major, and review the scales and chords of C and G major (these will all be quizzed in two weeks). Refer to page 146 if you need to.
In the book, study page 24 and complete the questions at the bottom of the page in pencil in your book.
Prepare for your quiz next week on the scales and chords of C, G, D, A major.
Be able to play “Hello! My Baby” on page 31 fluently.
Review what we learned of “Prelude in A minor” on page 39 and be able to play the rest of the piece slowly through.
Study page 28 in the book, and complete the review on page 36 in the book. You may need to hunt back through the previous chapter to find answers.
Prepare for your quiz, playing “Hello! My Baby” on page 31, fluently and with accurate rhythm. You will also need to have the subdivision written in correctly.
Be able to play the scales and chords of E (page 110) and B major. Be able to play the Prelude in A minor, on page 39 with an attempt to pedal correctly
Understand and be able to define the following terms from the book: Block and broken chord (page 10), Common Time (page 15), Cut Time (page 16)
Prepare for your quiz on C, G, D, A, E, B scales and chords.
Polish Prelude in A Minor on page 39 with correct pedaling. Write the counting in neatly and accurately. If you want a challenge, you may prepare Venetian Song on page 51 instead. You can present either of these two pieces for your quiz in 2 weeks time.
Understand and be able to define the following terms from the book: Rubato (page 26), Ritmico (page 16), Sforzando (page 34)
